Paradise Lost: Live in NYC

Le Poisson Rouge, New York - 5.22.2025

I attended Paradise Lost's performance at Le Poisson Rouge in New York City, where ambiance was enveloped in darkness, illuminated solely by blue light and heavy smoke. The British band delivered an intense and captivating experience, showcasing their distinctive fusion of gothic metal and darkwave within the intimate setting of the venue.

As soon as the lights dimmed, the unmistakable riff of "Enchantment" kicked off the set, prompting the crowd to erupt and sing along. Vocalist Nick Holmes’ haunting screams continue to send shivers down my spine even after all these years. I first discovered them in the 1990s, as they were one of the cassette tapes I owned. The band performed their iconic album with intensity, captivating an audience eager for every note.

The sound at Le Poisson Rouge, was top notch with every instrument and vocal perfectly balanced. Guitarist Greg Mackintosh and Aaron Aedy traded licks and riffs, creating a wall of sound that was both crushing and beautiful.

One of the highlights of the night was the performance of several tracks from their newer material, including "Ghosts." Paradise Lost has cultivated a devoted following in the city, and it is evident why. Their music is hauntingly beautiful, resonating with something profound.

Le Poisson Rouge is an underground basement and an exceptional venue that truly enhances the music experience, and last night's performance was a remarkable testament to its quality. If you have not yet had the opportunity to see Paradise Lost live, make it a priority to attend one of their shows in a city near you.

About Le Poisson Rouge

LPR was founded by musicians in 2008 in the heart of New York City’s historic Greenwich Village to reflect the rich musical culture of the city it calls home. Indie rock, contemporary classical, electronica, metal, jazz, world music, and everything in-between are equally at-home at this underground live music sanctuary. Late shows transform the cutting-edge music venue into a premier nightlife destination. All that plus a Gallery Bar that hosts art exhibitions, stand-up comedy, and drag queen bingo make LPR the most eclectically independent venue in NYC.

Launched in 2015, LPR Presents has transformed the venue into a full-fledged events production company expanding into rooms such as Town Hall, Brooklyn Bazaar, Warsaw, Baby’s All Right, Murmrr Theatre, and more. With a footprint that spans three boroughs, LPR has moved beyond its storied locale and is now synonymous with quality live music across NYC.*
